School is upon us! I am so excited to be returning to the Queen Anne Community and see so many familiar faces and consider myself lucky to have such a great community of support as I enter my second year of teaching. After graduating from Seattle University's Masters in Teaching program in 2011, I returned to the child care setting to become the program coordinator for Kid's Co at Queen Anne Elementary, where I grew to love the staff, students, and families that make up this wonderful school.
The opportunity arose to teach Kindergarten in the Renton School District the following year as I worked to further apply my education and passion within my own classroom. Now, upon returning to Queen Anne Elementary I am beyond ecstatic to begin a journey in third grade this year. I look forward to reconnecting with the many names and families I recognize and for those who have not met me, I can't wait to get to know all the new faces this coming fall! These relationships create the foundation of teaching as I hope learn how to best empower each student to make goals, achieve feelings of success both academically and socially, and create a culture of curious and civic minded learners through creative expression and meaningful application of skills.
This past summer I have been working and planning with Ms. Klope to prepare for the upcoming year including a fun Fall project that I am excited to unveil. We will continue to work closely throughout the year, refining our lessons and coming up with new and exciting ways to challenge our students. In the summer sun, I have also found time to visit and enjoy the many beaches around Seattle and compete in an International Soccer Tournament in Antwerp, Belgium. Representing the Northwest, we made it to the Finals before losing to Italy due to a penalty kick (bummer!). Second place though is nothing to be ashamed of and it was a great experience to share with my soccer family. Sports, and especially my soccer team, reinforce the importance of relationships and teamwork as I strongly feel the strength of the team lies in the strength of their bonds. This is no less true within the classroom as much of my focus will be around creating a classroom “team” of learners as we tackle many group projects and learn to support each other as we work hard to achieve our classroom and personal goals.
